~Lori Roland
I wasn’t always a therapist. My first degree was a BA with a dual major in French and Communications with a minor in Psychology. After graduating college, I worked in New York City as an analyst for Morgan Stanley, an international global banking firm. Sometime during my 2+ years commuting to NYC from the Jersey Shore, I recalled my interest and passion for my college minor and decided that I wanted to pursue a career as a therapist.
After graduating with my Masters in Counseling, Human Development, and Educational Leadership, I pursued my license in counseling and my license as a clinical alcohol and drug counselor. I have spent my career working as both a student assistance counselor in high schools as well as a therapist in private practice settings.
In addition to being a therapist, I am a certified fitness instructor and teach a variety of different fitness classes in the shore area.It is a perfect compliment to my field as a counselor as it blends both concepts of a healthy mind and body for overall wellness.
The best part of what I do is providing clients with support for positive change.
Helping people achieve a higher quality of life while improving overall mental and physical health has been my life’s work.
I take a non judgemental and collaborative approach to mental health and my specialty areas of service include: addictions, narcissistic abuse, relationship issues, family estrangements, women’s/men’s issues, healthy living, anxiety and depression, trauma and law enforcement, military and first responders. My diverse background in clinical, school and fitness settings allows me to explore a variety of different approaches with clients to best address their specific goals. My office provides an inviting and safe space for clients to connect and share.
Connecting with the right therapist and feeling comfortable is crucial to the counseling process. I offer a warm and trusting down-to-earth approach using authenticity and empathy and at times, a little humor to create an approachable and welcoming environment for my clients to work toward achieving their personal goals.
"Lori Roland is one of the most empathetic and compassionate people I have ever met. In the sixteen years that I have known Lori, both at the professional and personal level, her expertise in changing lives is unparalleled. In addition, I also worked closely with Lori at various health and fitness clubs in our community where she was known for inspiring and empowering women of all ages and fitness levels to gain the health and confidence they need to transform their lives. “ I have known Lori Roland since she was my oldest daughter’s high school Student Assistance Counselor. My daughter was addicted to drugs. The knowledge, support and compassion we received from Lori was amazing! My youngest daughter and I received counseling from Lori to help deal with the drug issues in our house and to improve our communication and coping skills. I can’t begin to thank Lori enough for the help that she has provided to me and my family!”

“In 2008 I was going through a difficult divorce and dealing with the pressures of being a Police Officer. I went to Lori for counseling. I found that her experience with other officers as well as dealing with divorce was the right fit for me. Today I am happily remarried and retired after 25 years of service.

“Competent, compassionate and knowledgeable are but a few of the adjectives I would use to describe Lori Roland’s counseling style. For almost 25 years I have watched first hand as she guided countless high school students and young adults through issues involving drugs and alcohol, relationships and families. Her private practice in Ocean county will help adults and youth through similar situations.

“ Lori has given me guidance throughout periods in my life. In my best, my toughest and my most meaningful moments, Lori has been there to normalize what I am feeling and I am better for it.”
~ Gene S., Client
A close friend recommended Lori to me while I was going through a tough divorce. Although I was hesitant to seek therapy at first, I knew I had to do something since my world had turned upside down and I was mentally at a very low point in my life. As I got to know Lori, I quickly became very comfortable in sharing my deepest thoughts with her. I can still recall how excited I was to see her each visit. Lori not only helped me gain much needed confidence, but also made me realize how deserving I was of a much better life than the one I had known throughout my marriage. I can never thank her enough for her wisdom, professional guidance and kindness!”

“I have known Lori Roland for over 20 years on both a professional and personal level. Lori is an exceptional person who is very dedicated to the well-being of the individuals whom she counsels. Lori always has their best interest in mind and works very hard to bring about resolution to the challenges that they face in their lives. Lori is a trusted employee of the Brick Township School District and has worked there for over 24 years; she routinely places the students’ concerns before her own. As a person, Lori is kind, caring, outgoing and always willing to help someone who is in need. She sees things through to their conclusions and she truly loves the work that she has taken on as a career. I believe that any person who seeks her services is in the finest of hands. “
